Relationships and Sex Education at Clapham Manor

Despite RSE not being statutory, we believe our school community context and geographical location makes the teaching of sex education to all pupils from Year 1 to 6 really important.  We have worked alongside the local authority to develop a comprehensive and age appropriate curriculum in order to enable children to develop feelings of self-respect, self-esteem self-confidence and to counteract any misleading myths.  We have trained staff on how to deliver this effectively and with sensitivity.

Please see our RSE policy for details of our curriculum mapping and scheme of work.

Stakeholder Consultation

We have provided varied opportunities to consult and engage with our parents in order to communicate our plans and review curriculum content in partnership through a series of parent forum meetings and workshops.

An action from this consultation has been to set up a working party to review the sex education curriculum we currently teach in preparation for its delivery later in the year. We now have a group of parents, that is representative of our school community, who meet with our Family Support Worker to explore the best strategies to communicate this sensitive topic, including making the resources that we use in class available to our parents.

If you would like any further information on this subject or would like to be involved in any further meetings, please contact our Family Support Worker, Ms Chaudhri.
